iPhone 6s Plus Battery Capacity Confirmed Smaller Than its Predecessor

Prior to the launch of Apple’s new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, speculations suggested that the new phones will feature smaller batteries. Even at the September 9 event, Apple didn’t really talk about the battery capacity much.

Following the event, a video rendering showed that the new iPhone 6s carries a battery smaller than the one seen on last year’s model. The battery on previous models had a capacity of 1810 mAh, whereas this year’s model features a 1715 mAh capacity. Up until the video surfaced, users were unaware of that specification, however, the reports stating so were pretty strong.

An Apple focused website in China, Apple.Club.TW revealed that the new iPhone 6s Plus is equipped with a 2750 mAh battery, as opposed to the 2915 mAh battery on the 6 Plus. A 5 to 6 percent reduction in capacity, which means, both phones have experienced the same capacity reduction.

Some say that Apple settled for lower battery capacity so that the new iPhones don’t increase in size. Thus, it seems 3D Touch sensors and Taptic Engine took up more space in the device and a sacrifice had to be made.

However, despite the reduced battery capacity, the battery life of the phone remains the same owing to the new energy efficient hardware and software. iOS 9 features huge updates which ensures efficient battery consumption. The device is also more efficient because of the new-gen A-9 processor as opposed to the a-8 processor seen on previous iPhones. The phone features an option called Low Power Mode, which turns of downloading in background apps to help you survive low battery.

Here is the battery specs comparison between the iPhone 6 and 6s:
